Controversial speed trick has been removed in 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'

Gone are the days of hopping back and forth in Mario Kart to give you that extra second of boost around corners. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, fire hopping has been removed.

In case you're a MK8 casual (don't worry, you're not alone), fire hopping is a way to maximize the amount of boost you get from drifting. As GameXplain shows above, you basically waggle back and forth while hopping to give yourself a slightly longer speed increase after a drift boost. But, to the delight of some, this trick is not making the jump from MK8 to MK8 Deluxe.

Fire hopping is a trick that's exclusive to MK8, and some players involved in the online community are glad to see it leave because it has become pervasive to a fault. Read more...
